[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Regarding Iran's attack on the U.S. military base in Iraq on the 8th (local time), the German troops deployed in the same area are reported to be safe.

One of the two bases attacked by Iran is the Erbil area, where German troops are stationed. The Korean Zaytun Unit was also stationed there in the past.

According to major foreign media, a German military spokesperson said, "We are in contact with the unit in Erbil," and "They are safe."

As part of the operation to defeat the Islamic State (IS), about 120 German troops are currently deployed in Iraq to support training for the Iraqi army and Kurdish militias. Due to rising tensions in the area, the German military announced that it would send about 30 troops deployed in Baghdad and nearby areas to Jordan and Kuwait the day before.
