[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] Im Mu-young, a prosecutor at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office (age 57, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 17), who publicly opposed the appointment of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk, retired with honor on the 7th. Im is known to be a classmate of Cho Kuk from Seoul National University Law School, class of 1982.
In a post on his Facebook on the same day, Prosecutor Im stated, "As of today, I am leaving the prosecution after serving for 30 years. I originally planned to retire at the end of last year, but I thought saying 30 years instead of 29 years sounded better, so I retired today."
He added, "For almost the first time in my life, I will be living freely without any affiliation for a while," and "I plan to open a small (lawyer) office and work independently."
Last September, he posted on the prosecution's internal network 'Epross' opposing the appointment of Minister of Justice Cho Kuk. Even after the appointment, he urged Cho to step down from the ministerial position, saying, "The new minister calling for prosecution reform is like Yoo Seung-jun encouraging the public to join the military."
Prosecutor Im passed the 27th Judicial Examination in 1985 and served at the Uijeongbu branch of the Seoul District Prosecutors' Office, Suwon District Prosecutors' Office, Seoul District Prosecutors' Office, head of the Public Security Department at the Busan District Prosecutors' Office, planning director at the Judicial Research and Training Institute, head of the Criminal Division 1 at the Busan District Prosecutors' Office, and prosecutor at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office and Daejeon High Prosecutors' Office.
