[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Jeonbuk Province announced on the 3rd that it will conduct a "Special Crackdown on Illegal Livestock Product Distribution" from the 6th to the 23rd to ensure that residents can purchase livestock products with confidence ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
The crackdown will target 4,948 locations within the province, including slaughterhouses, livestock product processing plants, meat packaging processing businesses, meat retail stores, edible egg collection and sales businesses, and meat instant sales processing businesses that directly produce and sell seasoned meat, sausages, etc. to consumers at marts.
The main inspection items include ▲whether health examinations are conducted for temporary employees hired during peak seasons ▲unauthorized changes to workplace facilities such as refrigerated and frozen warehouses in livestock product businesses without permission or notification ▲repackaging or falsifying expiration dates of gift sets past their expiration ▲thawing frozen livestock products and selling them as refrigerated products at higher prices ▲violations of labeling requirements such as type of meat, cut name, grade, slaughterhouse name, packaging date, expiration date, and storage method ▲failure to mark or false marking of laying date, farm identification number, and rearing environment on eggshells.
In addition, to prevent accidents caused by livestock products, beef, pork, ham, sausages, etc. distributed at sales locations will be collected and tested for preservatives and E. coli detection, and DNA tests will be conducted on Korean native beef (Hanwoo) to verify traceability compliance.
Furthermore, to ensure the stable establishment of the chicken, duck, and egg traceability system implemented since the 1st, close guidance and promotion will be conducted targeting livestock product workplaces.
A Jeollabuk-do official stated, "We will strive to prevent the distribution of illegal livestock products before the Lunar New Year holiday and establish a sound livestock product distribution system," and added, "Businesses should also be careful to avoid any unintended harm."
