Promotion of Signboard Replacement and Digital Outdoor Advertising Installation Reflecting Resident Opinions by December... Installation on 100 Buildings, 274 Businesses, and Traditional & Alley Markets in Dongjak-daero 1-gil and 3 Other Sections
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) is promoting a project to replace old and inconsistent business signs in the Sadang-dong area and install digital outdoor advertisements in traditional markets by December.
Last December, the district secured project funds of 300 million KRW and 700 million KRW respectively by being selected for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s “Sign Improvement Project for Sadang 1-dong Commercial Area Revitalization” and the “2020 Big Data-Based Digital Outdoor Advertising Pilot Project,” and has been actively implementing the projects since January.
The target area for the “Sign Improvement Project for Sadang 1-dong Commercial Area Revitalization” includes Sadang-ro 30-gil, Dongjak-daero 1-gil, and two other sections, covering 1,032 meters with 100 buildings and 274 businesses.
This area has a high floating population due to the proximity of Sadang Station and Isu Station, and residents have continuously requested neat and unique sign streets that reflect the local characteristics.
Accordingly, the district formed a resident council consisting of the resident autonomy committee chairpersons, merchant association, and village planning leaders, as well as a support organization made up of architectural experts, public officials, and district heads to discuss and proceed with design decisions, contractor agreements, and other necessary matters.
After collecting residents’ opinions through briefings and other means, the area will be designated as a pilot zone for advertisement maintenance in March, with sign design carried out from April to June, and installation completed between July and September.
Additionally, the digital outdoor advertising pilot project, themed “Sadang Premium Media Mate,” will be installed throughout traditional and alley markets within Sadang-dong.
The digital outdoor advertising pilot project offers clearer image quality and immersive experience compared to existing outdoor advertisements, enabling customized advertising that is expected to contribute to improving small business management conditions and creating new jobs, thereby benefiting the local economy.
The district plans to designate specific zones for digital outdoor advertisement installation from April to June and complete production and installation between November and December.

Kim Yooseop, head of the Street Administration Division, stated, “We will continue to strive to establish an advanced sign culture to improve urban aesthetics and revitalize the local commercial area.”
