JTBC scheduled a special New Year debate on 'JTBC Newsroom' over two days, on the 1st and 2nd.
The debate held on the 2nd at the JTBC studio in Ilsan, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, was themed "Korean Politics, What Needs to Change?"
On this day, Yoo Si-min, chairman of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation, lawyer Jeon Won-chak, Lee Cheol-hee, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Park Hyung-joon, a professor at Dong-A University, who previously appeared together on JTBC's current affairs and culture program 'Ssulzun,' participated in a heated discussion.
Earlier, on the 1st, a debate on the topic of "Media Reform" featured Yoo Si-min, chairman of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation, and former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon.
On that day, former professor Jin criticized Yoo's YouTube broadcast 'Alileo,' saying, "(Chairman Yoo) uses language of agitation. I dislike fantasy works, so I do not watch Alileo."
In response, Chairman Yoo rebutted, "It means that the prosecution's claims do not always contain facts."
According to Nielsen Korea, a ratings survey company, the debate on the 2nd recorded a viewership rating of 8.262%.
Meanwhile, Son Seok-hee, CEO of JTBC, will step down from his anchor position on 'Newsroom' after 6 years and 4 months following this debate.
JTBC announced on the 23rd of last month through an official statement that "JTBC News will undergo a complete generational change starting from the new year." Accordingly, Son will step down from the anchor position and continue only as CEO.
Starting on the 6th, the weekday 'Newsroom' will be operated by announcer Anna Kyung and reporter Seo Bok-hyun. On weekends, reporter Han Min-yong will conduct the program alone.
