KB Kookmin Bank Releases Commemorative Video for 'Daehan Lived'

[Asia Economy Reporter Jo Kang-wook] KB Kookmin Bank announced on the 2nd that it has released the commemorative video for the elementary school student contest of 'Daehan-i Salatda' (Daehan Lived), produced to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the March 1st Movement and the establishment of the government, through official SNS channels such as YouTube and Facebook.

'Daehan-i Salatda' is a prison song of seven female independence activists, including Yu Gwan-sun, who were imprisoned together in Cell No. 8 of Yeoksa at Seodaemun Prison immediately after the March 1st Movement and carried out the Manse (Long Live Korea) movement even while incarcerated. Until now, only the lyrics had been passed down by descendants, but last year, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the March 1st Movement and the establishment of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, KB Kookmin Bank, composer Jung Jae-il, singer Park Jung-hyun, and Kim Yuna revived it after 100 years.

From August to October last year, KB Kookmin Bank held a free video contest using the 'Daehan-i Salatda' audio track for teams consisting of classes with 10 or more elementary school students nationwide. Teams that submitted excellent works were awarded certificates and scholarships: Grand Prize (1 team) 1 million KRW, Excellence Award (2 teams) 500,000 KRW each, and Merit Award (3 teams) 300,000 KRW each, along with 100 recommended books per winning team as prizes. Additionally, 40 teams were selected separately and given snacks.

The Grand Prize was awarded to a team composed of students from Class 1, 5th grade, Dong Elementary School in Jeonju. Especially through the passionate performance of the students, the video depicted the process of the Taegeukgi (Korean national flag), damaged by Japanese colonial rule, being revived over the Rising Sun Flag, along with the imprisonment narrative of Yu Gwan-sun, delivering a moving impression.

The Excellence Awards were given to teams composed of students from Class 10, 5th grade, Okgyedongbu Elementary School in Gumi, and Class 5, 5th grade, Sanga Elementary School in Incheon, respectively. The Okgyedongbu students decorated their classroom using the Taegeukgi and the lyrics and sang 'Daehan-i Salatda' in chorus, while the Sanga students drew the dreams of independence fighters and their own current dreams on a single drawing paper, honoring the sacrifice and noble spirit of the independence activists.

KB Kookmin Bank produced a collage-style commemorative video using the contest submission videos to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the March 1st Movement and the establishment of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, as well as the 74th anniversary of Liberation Day, and has now released it.

A KB Kookmin Bank official said, "We planned this contest to provide an opportunity for elementary school students, the future of Korea, to once again reflect on the cries of their ancestors for independence 100 years ago and the meaning of liberation," adding, "We hope this commemorative video will also be used for history education for descendants."
