Kim Nam-gil, who starred in the drama ‘The Fiery Priest,’ won the SBS Drama Awards Grand Prize. Kim Nam-gil received his first-ever Grand Prize trophy at the 2019 SBS Drama Awards held from the 31st of last month to the 1st at the SBS Prism Tower in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu.
In his acceptance speech, he said, “I usually live by the saying ‘Life is like a horseman’s luck,’ not getting hung up on big or small things, but receiving such a big award today makes that difficult,” and added, “Although a lot of time has passed since The Fiery Priest ended, I am truly grateful to the viewers who still remember, love, and support it.”
Kim Nam-gil continued, “This year, it took more courage to stand in front of the public,” and said, “I want to dedicate this honor to all the actors of The Fiery Priest who made it possible for me to stand here today, who helped me keep a positive energy, and who encouraged me to be a better Kim Nam-gil tomorrow than today.”
‘The Fiery Priest,’ in which he starred, heated up living rooms last year by recording SBS’s highest viewership ratings. Kim Nam-gil portrayed Kim Hae-il, a Catholic priest who does not hesitate to use harsh words and violence. Despite dealing with somewhat heavy themes, the drama skillfully combined comedy and action, making him an early strong candidate for the Grand Prize.
At the awards ceremony that day, The Fiery Priest won eight awards across all categories, including the Grand Prize, Excellence Award (Lee Ha-nee), Outstanding Award (Kim Sung-kyun), Supporting Actor Award (Go Jun), and Rookie Awards (Geum Sae-rok and Eum Moon-seok).
