Girl group 2NE1's song "I Am the Best" has been named one of the best singles of this year by famed U.S. entertainment publication Slant Magazine.
On December 13, Slant published its article on "The 25 Best Singles of 2011" which included the Korean pop quartet's "I Am the Best" from their first mini-album released in late summer of this year.
Slant described the song as "a jaw-dropping, vibrant triumph of pure swagger and verve" while adding that "one of 2011's best developments was that the Western world finally discovered the unmitigated joy of K-pop."
Other singles on the list were Beyonce's "Love On Top," Britney Spears' "Till the World Ends," and Lady Gaga's "The Edge of Glory."
This is not the first time 2NE1's talent has been recognized overseas -- while leading a strong singing career in Japan and popular in several other countries in Asia as well, the pop quartet was also picked best new band of the year by MTV's IGGY and has been working on their U.S. debut album with Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am.
2NE1, formed of members CL, Park Bom, Sandara Park and Minzy, made their debut in May 2009 after being discovered and trained by major talenthouse YG Entertainment.
