Korean idols ZE:A will make their big screen debut in Japan, starring as the main characters in an upcoming action film.

Japan's daily sports paper Sankei Sports Shimbun reported on Monday that the nine-member boy band has been cast as the male leads in the film titled "RONIN POP," a Japan-Korea collaboration telling of the power struggle between youths during the aftermath of a nuclear war.

The report also stated that the boys recently shot the movie's climax scene at a theme park located in the Gyeong-gi Province in South Korea.

A PR official from their agency Star Empire Entertainment confirmed news of the boys' upcoming appearance in the film.

ZE:A (Children of Empire) made their debut in January last year with their mini-album "Nativity" and followed it up with "Leap for Detonation" and "Level Up."

The group began their activities in Japan after performing on music program "SEOUL TRAIN," which introduces K-pop artists to local fans, in early March in 2010.

The boys signed with Japanese entertainment company IMX in July to manage their career in the country and placed at No. 3 on Oricon's daily singles chart with their first Japanese album "ZE:A!" and held a sold-out concert in the country last month.

They are currently preparing to release their full-length album in Korea in February next year.
