Several Korean movies have found foreign buyers during this year's American Film Market (AFM) held in the United States, according to a press release from local film distributor Finecut. On Tuesday, Finecut announced that Korean animation "Leafie, A Hen Into the Wild" brought in sales from Italy, Germany and Brazil during the annual AFM held in Santa Monica, California for eight days starting November 2. The cartoon, which was already sold to Turkey, Indonesia, Portugal, Russian, China and Russia, will open in 50 theaters in Italy in April next year as well as 80 select theaters in Brazil. "Leafie," based on the popular children's novel of the same name, tells the adventure of a hen who leaves her chicken farm to realize her dream of hatching her own egg. It also became the first local cartoon to attract over two million viewers in Korean box office history since opening in local theaters in late July. Meanwhile, Kim Ha-neul and Yoo Seung-ho's thriller "Blind" was sold to nine countries such as Japan, Malaysia and Brunei while China, France and the United States have also shown interest in the pic. Korean horror flick "The Cat," starring Park Min-young and Kim Dong-wook, scored deals with Japan and France and the movie version of SBS blockbuster TV series "Athena" was sold to 20 countries including China, Germany, France, the United States, Canada, Malaysia, Turkey, Indonesia and Taiwan. Director Jung Tae-won's comedy pic "Unstoppable Family" was purchased by Japan, Taiwan and the United States. ※ Any copying, republication or redistribution of 10Asia's content is expressly prohibited without prior consent of 10Asia.
