Former Gwangju Metropolitan City Mayor Lee Yongseop has been appointed as the new chairman of Booyoung Group.
Chairman Lee is succeeding former Chairman Lee Heebeom, who resigned for personal reasons, and will jointly manage the group with the founder, Chairman Lee Joongkeun.
On March 2, Chairman Lee announced on his Facebook page, "Today, I started my first day as chairman of Booyoung Group. For nearly half a century, I have lived a life devoted to the nation and its people as a public servant. While there are some concerns, my heart is filled with excitement for this new challenge."
He added, "I will faithfully uphold the management philosophy of founder Lee Joongkeun and, based on the valuable achievements Booyoung Group has accumulated so far, will take the lead in addressing the national agenda of 'stabilizing housing for the people.'"
Booyoung Group stated, "(Chairman Lee) is an innovator with deep insight and extensive experience not only in real estate and construction policy but also in administration and the economy as a whole. We expect him to strengthen the group’s fundamentals and establish a foundation for sustainable growth."
Meanwhile, after passing the 14th Higher Civil Service Examination, Chairman Lee served as Commissioner of the Korea Customs Service and Commissioner of the National Tax Service, as well as Minister of the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs, Minister of the Ministry of Construction and Transportation, Vice Chairman of the Presidential Job Committee, and Chief Secretary for Innovation Management at the Blue House. He was a member of the 18th and 19th National Assembly and, during the 7th popularly elected term as mayor of Gwangju, successfully established key initiatives such as the 'Gwangju Model Job' policy.
