Ministry of National Defense: "No Damages to Deployed Units So Far"
The Ministry of National Defense announced that Ahn Kyu-baek, Minister of National Defense, presided over a "Current Situation Assessment Meeting on the Middle East Situation" in the Joint Chiefs of Staff Operations Command Center on March 2, 2026.
More than 40 key officials from the Ministry of National Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff attended the meeting, while commanders of overseas deployment units, including the Dongmyeong, Cheonghae, Akh, and Hanbit Units, participated via video conference.
The meeting included assessments of international and Middle East affairs, as well as the situation regarding North Korea. Through reports from the commanders of the overseas deployment units, the current status of these units was reviewed. The Ministry of National Defense had strengthened the force protection posture as of February 28, 2026, to ensure the safety of the overseas deployment units, and confirmed that there have been no damages to our deployed forces as of now.
Minister Ahn emphasized, "While making the safety of our service members on the ground the top priority, please minimize external activities and ensure military readiness within the base so that you can respond immediately to any situation."
He also stressed the need to maintain a 24-hour crisis response system and to keep thorough preparation so that, if requested, military assets can be promptly deployed to assist in the evacuation of overseas Korean nationals and fulfill their mission.
Additionally, Minister Ahn instructed all military units, "Commanders should maintain a thorough readiness posture centered on the field, ensure full preparation for the combined defense posture and the Freedom Shield (FS) exercise, and, in particular, strictly enforce military discipline."
