Jangseong County in South Jeolla Province announced on March 2 that it has completed construction of a youth center designed to serve as a hub for youth activities, including spaces for communication and exchange.
On the 27th of last month, Jangseong County held the completion ceremony for its youth center, "Aureum," thereby launching systematic support initiatives for young people.
Located in the downtown area of Jangseong-eup, the Jangseong County Youth Center "Aureum" was built on a site of 1,690 square meters (512 pyeong), with a floor area of 582 square meters (176 pyeong), and is a two-story building. The total project cost amounted to 4.627 billion won.
The first floor features a "Shared Cafe" as a communication space for young people, as well as a "Shared Meeting Room" that can be used for small gatherings or meetings.
The second floor houses a "Multipurpose Hall" for lectures, exhibitions, and events, along with an IT training room equipped with computers, and office space.
Jangseong County explained that, due to a lack of spaces for youth communication and exchange in the area, preparations for the youth center began as a pledged project at the start of the 8th popularly elected administration.
In 2023, the county secured 2.5 billion won in project funding from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety for local community revitalization, and construction began in the second half of 2024. As planned, construction was completed, and the completion ceremony was held on this day.
The newly opened "Aureum" will comprehensively implement various projects related to promoting and supporting youth policies. Planned activities include: providing and publicizing information on youth policies; supporting youth capacity building and employment/entrepreneurship; operating the "Youth Dream Class" (a basic entrepreneurship course for small business start-ups); supporting communication and cultural activities; offering the "Youth Mind On" program (mental health support); and facilitating youth community exchange activities.
Including funding from the Ministry of Employment and Labor, a total of approximately 267 million won will be invested in the "Youth Growth Project," which aims to support the step-by-step development of young people through youth participation programs, opportunities for communication and exchange, and the creation of a youth-friendly environment. In the long term, the goal is to strengthen youth competency development and job linkage, thereby establishing a solid foundation for self-reliance and encouraging young people to settle in Jangseong.
The center is open on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Saturdays, it is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Jangseong County Governor Kim Hanjong stated, "With the establishment of our first-ever youth center 'Aureum,' this year marks the inaugural year of 'Jangseong where youth can grow.' We will build strong pillars to support a hopeful future for Jangseong through unwavering support."
