The event took place at the Patriot Hill in Seokjeon-ri, Waegwan-eup, with more than 70 participants, including the county governor, chairperson of the county council, heads of local organizations, county council members, and bereaved families. The program proceeded in the following order: national ceremony, wreath-laying at the memorial altar, congratulatory remarks, singing of the March 1st Movement song, recitation of the Three Promises, and three cheers for Korean independence.
Chilgok County has produced 139 independence merit recipients, including Jang Jin-hong, who threw a bomb at the Bank of Joseon (4 Independence Medals, 8 Patriotic Medals, 30 Loyalty Medals, 10 National Foundation Medals, and 87 Presidential Citations). Patriot Hill is home to 19 commemorative monuments dedicated to independence activists.
On this day, the Chilgok County Children's Choir led the singing of the national anthem and the March 1st Movement song with vigor and confidence. Through the noble spirit of independence shown by our forebears, the event served as an opportunity to inspire patriotism and pride, and to pass these values on to future generations.
Kim Jaewook, Governor of Chilgok County, stated, "Today’s event goes beyond a simple ceremony; it is an important occasion to never forget the sacrifice and dedication of the independence activists and to pass on their spirit to future generations. Each flower offered today is a sign of our deep respect for our forebears and a pledge to uphold freedom and peace," he said, expressing his respect and gratitude.
