Strengthening the Provision of Essential Medical Services in the Local Community
SMG Yonsei Hospital has further strengthened the surgical capabilities and patient safety system of its Central Surgery Center by newly appointing Dongwook Kim and Sangsoo Kim, both specialists in anesthesiology and pain medicine, as department chiefs.
With the addition of these two anesthesiology and pain medicine specialists, SMG Yonsei Hospital has established a more systematic and reliable patient care system that enables comprehensive management throughout the entire surgical process-from preoperative general condition assessment to intraoperative anesthesia management and postoperative pain control.
Through these enhancements, the hospital plans to gradually increase the proportion of complex surgeries in major departments such as orthopedics, general surgery, neurosurgery, and urology, thereby reinforcing the supply of essential medical services in the local community.
Dongwook Kim, the newly appointed chief of the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, graduated from the College of Medicine at Kosin University and completed his residency in anesthesiology and pain medicine at Kosin University Gospel Hospital. He subsequently served as a fellow and clinical instructor at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, where he gained extensive experience in university hospital-level surgeries and anesthesia. Kim also accumulated broad clinical expertise across various surgical fields as chief of the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at Changwon Fatima Hospital, Yonsei S Hospital, and Sae Tongyeong Hospital.
Sangsoo Kim, who joined the hospital alongside Kim, graduated from the College of Medicine at Kosin University and earned his specialist qualification in anesthesiology and pain medicine at Kosin University Gospel Hospital. He later received his doctorate in medicine from Kosin University Graduate School of Medicine. Kim has been recognized for his expertise in surgical anesthesia and pain management through his roles as chief of the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at MH Yonsei Hospital, director at Seoul Hospital, and chief at Saeil Hospital and Prime Hospital, working in diverse clinical settings.
A hospital official stated, "With the addition of two highly experienced anesthesiology and pain medicine specialists, the anesthesia workforce and surgical response capabilities of our Central Surgery Center have been strengthened. As a result, we will be able to provide a more stable system for anesthesia and surgical care, even in emergency and high-risk surgeries. We will continue to enhance our essential medical capabilities so that residents of Changwon and the western Gyeongnam region can receive safer and more reliable surgical medical services."
