Environmental Improvements for Two Korean War Memorial Facilities at Manila National Heroes Cemetery

To mark the 77th anniversary of diplomatic relations with the Philippines, the first Asian nation to dispatch troops during the Korean War, a large-scale renovation of local Korean War memorial facilities will take place. This initiative aims to honor the sacrifices of overseas veterans and preserve historical value through collaboration between private companies and the government.

On March 2, Hyundai Motor Group announced that, in cooperation with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, it will undertake repairs and environmental improvements for two sites in Manila, Philippines: the Korean War Veterans Memorial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (National Heroes Cemetery) and the Korean War Memorial Hall. This project has been organized to commemorate the dedication of the 7,420 Filipino expeditionary soldiers who were deployed during the Korean War, as well as their families.
The memorial, built in 1967 at the National Heroes Cemetery, will undergo repairs for cracks and discoloration, and all marble on the surrounding stairs and floors will be replaced. Additional guide signs and symbolic sculptures will be installed on site to improve accessibility for visitors. The Korean War Memorial Hall, located about 1,200 meters from the memorial, will also see building repairs and replacement of interior furnishings, with further remodeling of the facility under consideration for the future.
This project is the first case of improving memorial facilities for overseas participants in the Korean War and is expected to expand to other allied nations in the future. In addition, Hyundai Motor Group will continue to cooperate with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs for the preservation and management of sites related to the independence movement abroad, while seeking to develop private-sector content and revitalize these spaces.
A Hyundai Motor Group representative stated, "Preserving memorial facilities and sites related to the independence movement is essential for passing history on to future generations," adding, "We will continue our efforts to honor the noble intentions of overseas war veterans and independence activists."
Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Group continues to carry out locally focused social contribution activities in the Philippines, such as "Hyundai Wheels on the Go" to support disaster victims and "Hope in a Bag" to provide daily necessities to vulnerable youth.
