Joining the Qualcomm-led Global 6G Coalition
Pushing Forward the Development of Wireless Communication Solutions
LG Electronics is accelerating innovation in next-generation telematics technology in collaboration with the global semiconductor company Qualcomm. On March 2, 2026 (local time), at the world’s largest mobile communications exhibition, Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026, held in Barcelona, Spain, LG Electronics announced that it would join the 'Global 6G Coalition,' which is being launched under the leadership of Qualcomm.
The coalition includes participation from over 30 global companies spanning connected mobility, telecommunications, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and mobile devices. These companies plan to conduct research and development on a range of devices, data services, and air-to-ground traffic management services utilizing artificial intelligence (AI)-based 6G technology. Alongside the launch of the coalition, Qualcomm presented a roadmap targeting commercial implementation of 6G systems by 2029.
LG Electronics is participating as a core partner in the connected mobility sector, aiming to advance its future technological capabilities related to Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV) and AI-Defined Vehicles (AIDV). The main areas of collaboration include: ▲Innovation in AI-based infotainment and user experience, ▲Expansion of seamless digital experiences that connect vehicles, mobile devices, homes, and the cloud, and ▲Implementation of high-performance computing and real-time data processing in SDV environments.
Through collaboration with various companies, LG Electronics is promoting the development of standards and system validation, thereby laying the foundation for building an open ecosystem. Leveraging the technological expertise accumulated as a leading telematics provider, the company plans to accelerate the development of automotive electronics technologies centered on AI and communication technologies in the era of SDV and AIDV.
LG Electronics will unveil next-generation smart telematics solutions for vehicles at MWC 2026. LG Electronics
The Vehicle Solutions (VS) Business Division of LG Electronics participated in MWC for the first time, unveiling its next-generation smart telematics solution. This move comes as vehicle communication technology emerges as a core factor in mobility competitiveness. LG Electronics aims to strengthen strategic partnerships with automakers and telecommunications companies seeking next-generation communication solutions in line with the advancement of autonomous driving and infotainment.
LG Electronics is making rapid technological progress in the connected car sector. A representative example is ‘LG αWare.’ LG αWare consists of the in-vehicle entertainment solution ‘PlayWare,’ ‘MetaWare’ that provides user experiences based on AR/MR and AI, and ‘VisionWare,’ an ADAS solution utilizing AI algorithms and camera sensors.
Additionally, LG Electronics applied its automotive webOS content platform (ACP, Automotive Content Platform) for the first time to commercial electric vehicles. ACP extends the diverse customer experiences of LG Electronics’ proprietary smart TV platform webOS to the vehicle interior, offering a variety of premium content, including LG Channel.
Meanwhile, at CES 2026 held earlier this year, LG Electronics continued its close cooperation with Qualcomm by unveiling a generative AI-based in-vehicle high-performance computing unit (HPC, High Performance Computing) co-developed by the two companies. The company also introduced the 'AI Cabin Platform,' an on-device AI solution for HPCs that serve as the vehicle's brain, for the first time to OEM customers.
Lee Sangyong, Executive Vice President and Head of the VS R&D Lab at LG Electronics, emphasized, "Through this collaboration, it will serve as an opportunity to broadly develop various solutions that combine AI and communication technologies," adding, "We will research a broader technological ecosystem, ranging from telematics and infotainment to security, to innovate the in-vehicle customer experience."
