Booyoung Group announced on March 2 that it has appointed Lee Yongseop, former Minister of Construction and Transportation and former Minister of Government Administration and Home Affairs, as its new Chairman. He succeeds Chairman Lee Heebeom, who has held the position since February 2023.
Regarding the appointment, Booyoung Group stated, "Chairman Lee is an innovator with deep insight and extensive experience in real estate and construction policy, as well as in administration and the overall economy," adding, "We expect him to strengthen the group’s foundations and lead the way in a changing business environment, thereby establishing the basis for sustainable growth."
Chairman Lee comes from a traditional economic bureaucratic background. Born in 1951 in Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do, he graduated from Chonnam National University, earned a master’s degree in economics from the University of Michigan in the United States, and obtained a doctorate in economics from Sungkyunkwan University. He passed the 14th Higher Civil Service Examination and served as Commissioner of the Korea Customs Service and the National Tax Service, Minister of Government Administration and Home Affairs, Minister of Construction and Transportation, Vice Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Jobs, and Chief Secretary for Innovation Management at the Blue House. He later served as a member of the 18th and 19th National Assembly and as the Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City during the 7th term of direct local elections.
Chairman Lee stated, "I will strive to ensure that Booyoung Group meets the national demand for housing stability and develops into a more trusted global public company."
