According to major foreign news agencies such as AFP and Reuters, Hezbollah announced that overnight it fired rockets and drones toward Israel in retaliation for the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In a statement issued that day, Hezbollah declared, "As retaliation for the pure blood of Khamenei, and to defend Lebanon and its people while responding to repeated Israeli attacks, we launched a barrage of missiles and drones."
In turn, the Israeli military announced that it immediately launched retaliatory airstrikes targeting Hezbollah across Lebanon.
As a result, witnesses reported multiple explosions in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.
In a statement released on the same day, the Israeli military said, "In response to Hezbollah's shelling targeting Israel, we have begun striking targets belonging to the Hezbollah terrorist organization throughout Lebanon."
