Chuncheon Love Gift Certificates to Be Issued
Expected to Boost Local Economic Circulation
Expansion to Middle and High School Students and Increase to 200,000 Won Planned for 2027
Chuncheon City, Gangwon Province (Mayor Yuk Donghan), will provide an entrance congratulatory grant of 100,000 won to first-grade elementary school students enrolling in the 2026 academic year.
The recipients are new elementary school students for the 2026 academic year who are registered residents of Chuncheon. Eligible students include those entering elementary schools within Chuncheon, as well as those enrolling in schools located in other cities or counties, provided they meet the requirements.
Applications can be made starting March 3, either in person by the guardian-who must bring identification-to the local administrative welfare center corresponding to the student's registered address, or online via the 'Gangwon Benefit Easy' website. The grant will be distributed sequentially after verifying eligibility and will be provided in the form of Chuncheon Love Gift Certificates. For further details, inquiries can be made to the administrative welfare center of the applicant's residential area or to the Education City Division at Chuncheon City Hall.
This entrance congratulatory grant is a policy that Chuncheon City has implemented since 2022 to ease the educational expenses for students and parents at the start of the school year and to support children's new beginnings as a community. Through this grant, the city also aims to encourage local spending and expects to see positive effects such as increased sales for small businesses and an overall revitalization of the local economy.
Meanwhile, in order to further alleviate the financial burden felt by parents amid high inflation, the city is planning to expand eligibility next year to include first-year students in middle and high schools, and to increase the grant amount to 200,000 won. The city plans to complete consultations with the Ministry of Health and Welfare and amend relevant ordinances within this year, with implementation scheduled for March next year.
An official from Chuncheon City stated, "The entrance congratulatory grant has received high satisfaction from new students' families since its introduction," and urged, "We ask all eligible families to be sure to apply within the designated application period."
