Geumcheon District to Begin Registration for "Geumcheon Citizen University" Students on March 3 Promotion material for Geumcheon Citizen University first half-year learner recruitment. Provided by Geumcheon District.

Geumcheon Citizen University, which underwent a pilot program last year, has been converted into a regular program starting this year. Three departments-Humanities & Social Sciences, Culture & Arts, and Future Digital-will be operated on a permanent basis, with the goal of establishing the "Geumcheon-style lifelong learning model," where "learning, practice, and connection" form a cycle.

The spring semester will run from April 19 to June 30. A total of 426 learners will be recruited across 24 courses, including six major courses and 18 general education courses. At the opening ceremony, Lee Kwangsoo, CEO of the real estate research company "Kwangsoone, Bokdeokbang," will deliver a lecture on "A New Era, Investments for Everyone."

The major courses include: "Cinema That Saves the Earth," "Korean Traditional Paintings and Western Art," "Art Workshop for Rediscovering Local Areas," "Photo Journey Using Smartphone Cameras and Light Tools," "AI in Your Hand," "An Easy and Fun First Step," and "2D Mini-Game Production Using AI Images." In particular, the Future Digital Department has expanded its digital transformation education by securing about 40 million won in external funding through collaboration with Dongyang Mirae University’s RISE Project.

The main campus for classes will be Geumcheon Lifelong Learning Center (Doksan), while 11 local institutions in the Gasan, Doksan, and Siheung districts will serve as neighborhood campuses, offering convenient learning environments. Tuition is free, though some material and textbook costs must be covered by learners. Applications can be submitted online via the Geumcheon Education Portal or in person at the Geumcheon Lifelong Learning Center starting March 3.

The district plans to assign learning managers to each major course to provide integrated support, including attendance management, learning consultation, and post-completion connections. A sustainable learning system will also be established through a graduate network and learning club activities.

Yoo Sung-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon District, stated, "I hope Geumcheon Citizen University becomes a platform for growth that transforms the lives of local residents," adding, "We will continue to develop the Geumcheon-style lifelong learning model, which achieves a balance of digital, humanities, and culture."
