Reuters-Ipsos Poll Conducted
56% of Respondents: "Trump Uses Military Force Too Readily"
45% of Respondents: "Oppose Iran Sanctions if Oil Prices Rise"
Reuters: "Public Opinion More Sensitive to Economic Issues Than Foreign Policy"
Only one in four Americans support U.S. President Donald Trump's airstrike on Iran, according to a recent poll.
On March 1 (local time), Reuters and polling agency Ipsos released a survey showing that, regarding the U.S. airstrike on Iran conducted on February 28, only 27% of Americans said they "support" the action. Meanwhile, 43% responded that they "oppose" it, and 29% said they were "not sure."
In total, 90% of all respondents said they had heard at least something about the U.S. airstrike on Iran.
Among those surveyed, 56% said, "President Trump seems to use military force too readily for America's interests." In recent months, the Trump administration has ordered military operations in Venezuela, Syria, and Nigeria.
Breaking down the results by party affiliation, 87% of Democratic supporters agreed with the view that Trump uses military force too easily. In contrast, only 23% of Republican supporters shared this view. Among independents, 60% held the same opinion.
Among Republicans, 55% supported the airstrike on Iran, with only 13% opposed. Notably, 42% of Republican supporters said they would be less likely to support airstrikes if U.S. troops stationed in the Middle East were killed or injured.
About 45% of survey respondents (including 34% of Republicans and 44% of independents) said they would be less likely to support sanctions against Iran if U.S. gas or oil prices were to rise.
Reuters noted that the poll consistently shows that economic concerns, rather than foreign policy, are the top priority for voters ahead of the election.
Meanwhile, the Reuters-Ipsos poll was conducted online with 1,282 adults across the United States and has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
