Up to 80mm of Rain Expected in Jeju;
Precipitation Begins in Jeolla from Early Morning
Heavy Snowfall of 10?30cm (Up to 40cm) Forecast for Mountainous Gangwon
Monday, March 2, which is a substitute holiday, is expected to be mostly cloudy across the country, with rain or snow forecast for most regions. In particular, a record-breaking snowfall of more than 40 centimeters is expected, especially in the mountainous areas of Gangwon Province, so extra caution is required for facility management and traffic safety.
On the morning of the 24th of last month, when a heavy snow warning was issued for Daejeon, Sejong, and the southern part of Chungnam, a citizen was walking while shielding themselves from the snow with a raincoat and an umbrella in Dunsan-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon. Photo by Yonhap News.
From early morning, there may be traces of raindrops of less than 0.1mm in the Seoul metropolitan area and inland Gangwon, while rain or snow is expected to begin in earnest in the Jeolla region from the early hours. As the morning progresses, precipitation is expected to spread to most other parts of the country.
The expected regional precipitation from March 2 to 3 is as follows: Jeju Island 20-60mm (over 80mm in mountainous areas), the east coast and mountainous areas of Gangwon 10-40mm, Gwangju, Jeonnam, Jeonbuk, Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam, and the east coast of Gyeongbuk 5-20mm, inland Gangwon, Daejeon, Sejong, Chungnam, Chungbuk, Daegu, southern inland Gyeongbuk, and northeastern mountainous Gyeongbuk 5-10mm, and Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi around 5mm.
The expected snowfall during the same period is: mountainous areas of Gangwon 10-30cm (over 40cm in some locations), northeastern mountainous Gyeongbuk 5-10cm, northern east coast of Gangwon 3-10cm, inland Gangwon and central east coast of Gangwon 3-8cm, eastern Gyeonggi, northern Chungbuk, northeastern Jeonbuk, southwestern inland Gyeongbuk, northern Gyeongbuk, and western inland Gyeongnam 1-5cm, southern east coast of Gangwon and central and southern Chungbuk 1-3cm, and less than 1cm for Seoul and northwestern Gyeonggi.
Tomorrow's morning lows are forecast to range from 1 to 8 degrees Celsius, and daytime highs from 4 to 12 degrees Celsius. As rain or snow falls across the country, temperatures are expected to drop and winds will blow, making it feel even colder, so caution is advised for personal health.
The Korea Meteorological Administration has urged that, with very heavy snow expected in the mountainous areas of Gangwon, people should prepare in advance to prevent isolation or facility damage. In areas where rain or snow is falling, visibility will be short and many roads will be slippery, so extra care is needed for traffic safety.
