Guri City Holds 107th March 1st Movement Day Ceremony

Guri City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyunghyun) held the 'March 1st Movement Day Ceremony' at the Cosmos Grand Theater in Guri Art Hall on March 1st to commemorate the 107th anniversary of the March 1st Movement.

Over 600 people-including bereaved families of independence patriots, heads of relevant organizations, group leaders, and citizens-attended the ceremony, reflecting on the noble spirit of patriotism embodied in the March 1st Movement, which proclaimed Korea's independence to the world.
During the event, Ham Cheonwoo, head of the Guri branch of the Liberation Association, read the Declaration of Independence. All participants waved the Taegukgi and shouted "Manse" three times, recreating the passionate calls of the time.
Mayor Baek Kyunghyun stated, "The noble sacrifices of our fallen patriots and independence activists resonate even more deeply today. We will engrave the courage and dedication of our ancestors in our hearts and strive to carry on their will with renewed determination. Without fearing challenges, we will work toward making Guri City a place where more citizens can find happiness."

Meanwhile, to honor elderly bereaved families of independence patriots attending the event, Guri City provided transportation support from arrival to departure through the Traffic Volunteer Corps, ensuring the utmost respect. The city also operated the "I, Too, Shout for Independence at Mangwoo" program, which included visits to the graves of four independence activists located in the Mangwoo Mountain Cemetery and historical education, offering participants an opportunity to reflect on the lives and spirits of independence fighters.
Additionally, the Donggu-dong Administrative Welfare Center is holding an exhibition titled "Taegukgi, Its Brilliant History," showcasing the evolution of the Taegukgi. The Sutaek 3-dong Administrative Welfare Center is contributing to fostering patriotism by displaying artworks created during the "March 1st Movement Taegukgi Drawing Event."
