Phone Interview with WP After the Airstrike
Trump Was at Mar-a-Lago During the Operation
"All I want is freedom for those people-the people of Iran."
On the 28th (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump spoke in a brief phone interview with the Washington Post (WP) regarding the U.S. military's airstrike on Iran, stating, "I want a safe country. That is what we are trying to have." He gave this answer when asked what legacy he wanted to leave as a result of the airstrike.
However, the WP noted that President Trump "was not asked" about the scope of the ongoing operation or whether U.S. ground forces would be involved. It was also reported that President Trump arrived at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, where his private residence is located, on the night of the 27th Eastern Time, just a few hours before the start of the military operation.
In a video message posted on social media, President Trump called on the Iranian people, saying, "When we finish (the attack), seize control of your government," and added, "This will probably be your only chance across many generations." He went on to say, "For years, you have asked the United States for help, but you never received it. No president was willing to do tonight what I am ready to do," emphasizing, "Now, you have a president who will give you what you want."
President Trump stated, "Let's see how you respond," adding, "The United States is supporting you with overwhelming strength and destructive power." He continued, "Now is the time to seize control of your destiny and to liberate a prosperous and glorious future that is within your reach." He stressed, "Now is the moment to act," and urged, "Do not let this opportunity pass you by."
