Jang Donghyuk, Leader of the People Power Party, commented on February 28 regarding the video debate on "election fraud" between Lee Junseok, Leader of the Reform New Party, and far-right YouTuber Jeon Hangil (real name Jeon Yugwan), which surpassed 5 million views. He evaluated this as "demonstrating the public's strong interest in a fair election system," and stated, "The People Power Party will begin full-fledged discussions on revising the election system and will establish a party-level task force (TF) to ensure rigorous election monitoring in the upcoming local elections."
Through a Facebook post on the same day, Leader Jang said, "Reforming the election system so that the public can trust it has become an agenda that can no longer be delayed." He continued, "Many citizens, regardless of whether the allegations of election fraud are true, believe that already revealed issues-such as granting voting rights to foreigners and insufficient management of early voting-must be corrected." He added, "Through this debate, there is now a shared understanding that the election system must be redesigned to eliminate any possibility of election fraud and to resolve the problem of poor election management."
He further stated, "Before silencing citizens who are calling for fair elections, the National Election Commission should first consider ways to restore trust in the election system."
Previously, in March of last year, when the impeachment trial of former President Yoon Sukyeol was underway, Leader Jang had also proposed an amendment to the Public Official Election Act seeking to abolish the early voting system, citing suspicions of early voting fraud.
