Police Declined to Refer Case, Citing Lack of Evidence of Intent
Prosecution Indicts Without Detention After Reviewing CCTV Footage
A well-known variety show producer facing allegations of forcible molestation has been indicted following a supplementary investigation by the prosecution.
The Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office announced on February 27 that on February 24, Producer A was indicted without detention on charges of forcible molestation.
Producer A is accused of making unwanted physical contact with Producer B, who worked on a variety show with A, in the early morning of August 15 last year.
The police acknowledged that physical contact had occurred but concluded in December last year that there was insufficient evidence of intent to molest, and therefore decided not to refer the case for prosecution.
However, after Producer B objected, the prosecution conducted a supplementary investigation, explaining that they had established the charges, including by reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showing Producer B pushing Producer A away and leaving the scene.
Lee Euneui, the attorney representing Producer B, stated on Facebook, "We express our gratitude to the prosecution for ultimately making the proper decision, albeit belatedly."
