Dress Code Notice at Fine Dining Restaurant Draws Attention
The fine dining restaurant operated by Chef Hyunseok Choi has drawn attention after posting a notice regarding dress code regulations.
Chef Choi’s restaurant, Choidot, which regained attention through shows such as the Netflix variety program "Black & White Chef," posted a notice requesting guests to "refrain from wearing overly revealing clothing." This has sparked a range of responses regarding dress codes in fine dining establishments.
The "Guidelines and Precautions" posted for Choidot on the reservation platform CatchTable state, "Please refrain from wearing overly revealing attire or clothing that may cause discomfort to other guests." The restaurant also specifies a "smart casual" dress code during the reservation process and requests, as a mandatory notice, that guests avoid wearing slippers or flip-flops whenever possible.
This notice recently garnered attention after being shared on social media. Some users wondered, "What kind of attire prompted the addition of this statement?" while others responded by saying, "Given the nature of fine dining, it is reasonable to expect a certain level of dress code."
Some speculated that a guest wearing overly revealing clothing may have caused discomfort to other patrons.
Within the fine dining industry, it is not uncommon for restaurants to provide dress code guidance in order to maintain their concept and atmosphere. However, the specificity and manner of expressing these dress standards can vary by venue, leading to ongoing discussions and varying interpretations.
Choidot has previously shared its vision through official Instagram posts. At the time, the restaurant stated, "We believe that culture develops through diversity and should be enjoyable for as many people as possible." They added, "We want to create a fine dining experience that is not exclusive to a particular group, but one that allows more people to relax, smile, and enjoy themselves."
Meanwhile, Chef Hyunseok Choi is well known for his appearances on programs such as JTBC’s "Please Take Care of My Refrigerator." With his distinctive personality and career as a fine dining chef, he has become a "star chef," and his appearance on the 2024 Netflix show "Black & White Chef" has brought renewed attention to his profile.
