[Weather] Mild Weather and Large Temperature Swings Through the March 1st Holiday Weekend... Rain and Snow Starting on the 2nd

During the March 1st Movement holiday, the weekend is expected to be milder than usual, and the substitute holiday will see temperatures close to the average for this time of year. In inland areas, the difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures will be greater than 15 degrees Celsius throughout the weekend. The expected minimum and maximum temperatures in major cities are as follows: Seoul 2 and 17 degrees, Incheon 2 and 12 degrees, Daejeon 0 and 16 degrees, Gwangju 3 and 17 degrees, Daegu 0 and 14 degrees, Ulsan 4 and 12 degrees, and Busan 5 and 13 degrees Celsius.

On March 1, central regions and Honam, except for the Yeongdong area of Gangwon, will start off with many clouds and gradually turn cloudy from the morning, while other regions will be mostly cloudy throughout the day. In Jeju, a low-pressure system passing to the south will bring about 5mm of rain. Morning lows on March 1 are expected to be between -1 and 8 degrees Celsius, with highs between 7 and 15 degrees Celsius.

On March 2, which is the substitute holiday, the whole country will be mostly cloudy, with rain or snow starting from early morning in the east coast and mountainous areas of Gangwon, Chungcheong, southern regions, and Jeju, and from the morning in the Seoul metropolitan area and inland Gangwon. Afterward, until the early morning of March 3, rain or snow will continue in the east coast and mountainous areas of Gangwon, eastern North Jeolla, and Yeongnam, and until the morning in Jeju.

This rain and snow are caused by a low-pressure system approaching from the direction of Shanghai, China, passing south of Jeju. The areas affected by precipitation may change depending on the path of the low-pressure system, so it is important to check the latest weather information.

With rain and snow, the morning low on March 2 is forecast to be between 1 and 8 degrees Celsius, and the afternoon high between 5 and 11 degrees Celsius. Morning temperatures will be higher than the seasonal average (-5 to 4 degrees), while afternoon temperatures will be similar to the average (7 to 12 degrees).

For some time, dense fog will reduce visibility to less than 200 meters in the mountainous areas of Gangwon. Low-level clouds will be carried in by easterly winds.

Strong winds with instantaneous speeds of around 55 km/h (15 m/s) are expected to continue for the time being, especially along the coast of South Gyeongsang and Jeju. Swells will continue to reach the east, south, and Jeju coasts for the time being, bringing high waves that will crash strongly onto the shore and sometimes over rocks and breakwaters, so caution is advised.
