Jeju Tourism Association Predicts 165,000 Visitors
The number of tourists visiting Jeju during this year's March 1st Movement holiday is expected to increase by more than 30% compared to last year.
The Jeju Tourism Association announced that from February 27 to March 2, a total of 165,000 people are expected to visit Jeju by air and sea over the four-day holiday period.
This figure represents an increase of about 40,000 people, or 32.6%, compared to the 124,385 visitors during last year's March 1st Movement holiday, when 13 flights and 9 ferry sailings were canceled due to adverse weather conditions. By date, approximately 45,000 visitors are expected on the 27th, 42,000 on the 28th, 38,000 on March 1st, and 40,000 on March 2nd.
The total number of domestic flights arriving in Jeju is 864, up 11.6% from last year's 774 flights. International flights are expected to reach 116, a 54.7% increase from last year's 75 flights.
The number of domestic airline seats supplied is 167,253, a 14.7% increase from last year's 145,826 seats. International airline seats are expected to reach 21,512, up 55.9% from last year's 13,796 seats. The Jeju Tourism Association expects the average domestic flight occupancy rate during the March 1st Movement holiday to be 90.1%.
In addition, a total of three cruise ships carrying 7,600 passengers are scheduled to dock during the holiday period.
The Jeju Tourism Association explained, "During last year's March 1st Movement holiday, 13 domestic flights and 9 ferry sailings were canceled due to adverse weather conditions," adding, "This year, the number of flights to and from Jeju has increased compared to last year, so the number of tourists visiting Jeju is expected to rise."
Previously, it was reported that about 250,000 people visited Jeju during the recent Lunar New Year holiday. This figure is 4,855 people (1.98%) higher than the initially forecasted 245,000 visitors.
