Gongchimo Announces Support for Committee While Minimizing Its Own Activities
The Committee for Promoting a Parliamentary Investigation to Uncover the Truth Behind the Yoon Suk-yeol Administration's Fabricated Indictments and to Seek Dismissal of Prosecutions announced on February 27 that it has decided to include the Daejang-dong case, the Ssangbangwool remittance to North Korea, and the West Sea public official shooting incident as subjects for a parliamentary investigation.
Han Byungdo, Floor Leader of the Democratic Party and chair of the committee, stated during the first meeting held that afternoon, "We are gathered here to thoroughly investigate the full extent of the targeted investigations and fabricated indictments carried out by Yoon Suk-yeol's political prosecution." He continued, "The Daejang-dong case, the Ssangbangwool remittance to North Korea case, and the West Sea public official shooting incident are representative examples where the political prosecution sought to obscure the truth. Through the parliamentary investigation, we will work to fully uncover the realities of the numerous fabricated cases orchestrated by Yoon Suk-yeol's political prosecution."
After mentioning the dark history of the political prosecution, Floor Leader Han said, "The committee seeks to open the black box on why and how prosecutorial power became a weapon that tramples on democracy," adding, "We will thoroughly reveal all aspects of the fabricated indictments raised in relation to the trials and charges of the cases under parliamentary investigation."
In addition to Floor Leader Han, Representatives Park Sungjoon and Lee Soyoung will serve as vice chairs of the committee. Representative Lee Geontae will serve as secretary, while Representatives Yoon Kunyoung, Kim Donga, Park Mingyu, Park Sunwon, Yang Bunam, Lee Yongwoo, and Lee Juhui have been appointed as committee members.
It was reported that the "Lawmakers' Group for Promoting Dismissal of Lee Jaemyung's Prosecution and Parliamentary Investigation" (Gongchimo), which was the direct catalyst for the establishment of the committee, was not mentioned during the meeting. Representative Lee Juhui stated, "As Gongchimo has decided to minimize its activities and actively support the committee after the operations committee meeting, the committee will respect the intentions of Gongchimo."
