This weekend, the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions will experience clear signs of spring, with daytime temperatures reaching up to 18 degrees Celsius. However, special caution is advised due to the significant temperature difference between day and night, especially in inland areas, where the daily temperature range will exceed 15 degrees.
According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration on February 27, Gwangju and Jeonnam are expected to see mostly clear weather on Saturday, February 28. On March 1, Independence Movement Day, there will be many clouds, and it will gradually become overcast from the morning.
For the time being, temperatures will remain above the seasonal average (morning lows of -1 to 3 degrees, daytime highs of 9 to 12 degrees), resulting in mild and pleasant weather. On February 28, morning lows will range from 0 to 6 degrees, with daytime highs between 11 and 18 degrees. On March 1, morning lows are forecast to be 0 to 6 degrees, and daytime highs are expected to be between 11 and 16 degrees.
In particular, on February 28, most areas of Jeonnam will see temperature differences between day and night exceed 10 degrees, and in various inland areas of Gwangju and Jeonnam, the difference will be over 15 degrees. Residents are advised to take special care of their health during this transitional season.
Strong winds and rain are expected, especially around the seas and coastal areas. The Korea Meteorological Administration issued preliminary strong wind advisories for Geomundo and Chodo, as well as preliminary high seas warnings for the eastern distant offshore areas of the western South Sea, effective from the afternoon of February 28. On the night of February 28, preliminary high seas warnings will also be issued for the western distant offshore areas of the western South Sea.
The southern distant offshore areas of the West Sea will experience strong winds of 7 to 13 meters per second and high waves of 0.5 to 2.5 meters until February 28. In particular, from the afternoon of February 28, the distant offshore areas of the western South Sea, and from March 1, the southern distant offshore areas of the West Sea, are likely to see very strong winds of 8 to 15 meters per second and rough waves reaching 1.0 to 3.5 meters, increasing the likelihood of high seas warnings being issued.
An official from the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration advised, "Since the winds will be very strong and the waves high at sea, vessels navigating or operating in these waters should pay special attention to safety to prevent accidents."
