Supreme Court Justice Park Youngjae, who serves as the Chief of the National Court Administration, is reported to have tendered his resignation on February 27, 2026.
Chief Park was appointed to the position on January 13, 2026, succeeding his predecessor, former Chief Chun Daeyeob.
Park previously served as the presiding justice before the en banc review in the Supreme Court appeal of the Public Official Election Act case involving then-presidential candidate Lee Jaemyung, which was remanded for retrial in May 2025.
Park's resignation comes as the Democratic Party of Korea is pushing ahead with the legislative passage of the "Three Judicial Reform Bills."
The law on judicial distortion of facts (a Criminal Act amendment), which was revised just before being brought to a plenary session of the National Assembly due to constitutional controversy, passed the plenary session the previous day. The Democratic Party of Korea also plans to process the Constitutional Court Petition Act (an amendment to the Constitutional Court Act) and the Supreme Court Justice Expansion Act (an amendment to the Court Organization Act).
