Jinan County was selected as the Best Water Management Institution at the 34th Water Management Symposium held in commemoration of World Water Day.
Jinan County was recognized for its achievements in aging water supply system maintenance projects and budget savings at the symposium, which took place from February 25 to 27 at the Jeju Booyoung Hotel & Resort.
This event was organized by Environmental Times, Environment Broadcasting GKBS, and Water & Sewage Newspaper, and was supported by the National Assembly Water Forum, Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, Korea Water Resources Corporation, Korea Environment Corporation, and others. Water management experts from across the country participated to share sustainable water management policies and technologies.
From 2018 to 2023, Jinan County invested a total of 27.9 billion won in the local water supply modernization project, establishing a systematic maintenance and management system and improving aging water pipelines. Through these efforts, the county increased water flow rates and improved the stability and efficiency of clean water supply.
Furthermore, from 2025 to 2031, the county is implementing an additional maintenance project for aging water supply systems with a total budget of 43.7 billion won, laying the groundwork for mid- to long-term water supply management. By improving old facilities and establishing phased implementation plans, the county is simultaneously pursuing supply stability and water quality improvement.
Of particular note, the county’s own pipe cleaning project, in which public officials directly perform pipe cleaning work, has saved about 3 billion won over the past two years. This active administration initiative has reduced dependence on external contractors, strengthened internal expertise, and is seen as a case of simultaneously securing fiscal soundness and administrative efficiency.
Additionally, Jinan County has established a master plan to lay the foundation for regional water supply, and aims to build a stable regional water supply system in the long term by expanding the water supply network and introducing a smart water management system that enables real-time monitoring and data-based operation.
A Jinan County official stated, “Stable water supply is the most fundamental administration directly linked to the quality of life for county residents. We will continue to increase public trust through systematic facility improvements, budget savings, and active administration.”
