President Lee Jaemyung expressed his gratitude on the 27th regarding Hyundai Motor Group's investment decision in Saemangeum, stating, "Saemangeum will be reborn as a 'city of the future' where anyone can conveniently use robots in everyday life," and added, "The government will respond to the bold decision of the company with even bolder support."
On this day, President Lee made these remarks while attending the 'Saemangeum Robot, Hydrogen, and AI City Investment Agreement Ceremony' held at the Saemangeum Convention Center (GSCO) in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province. Prior to the event, Hyundai Motor Group announced a plan to invest 9 trillion won in the Saemangeum area and establish hubs for the robotics, hydrogen, and artificial intelligence (AI) industries.
President Lee emphasized, "No matter how much effort the government makes, this is not something the government can do alone. Despite the desire to move to the provinces, there are situations where people cannot do so because of a lack of population, inconvenience, and uncertainty about the future. Nevertheless, Hyundai Motor Group made a bold decision, trusting the government and taking on potential risks. On behalf of the people, I sincerely thank them once again."
When applause erupted from the audience, President Lee asked, "Is this cheer for our Chairman Chung Euisun of Hyundai Motor Group?" and then said, "That's right. Let's give a round of applause in appreciation," joining in the applause.
President Lee analyzed, "The wind and sunlight of Saemangeum will be converted into eco-friendly green hydrogen. This green hydrogen will be supplied to nearby industrial complexes such as Jeonju and Wanju, becoming a key driving force for regional industries, and will also provide a solid foundation for the advanced industries that will be established in Saemangeum."
President Lee further stated, "Based on this eco-friendly energy, a large-scale robot manufacturing plant, a parts cluster, and an AI data center-designed to lead global physical AI-will be established in Saemangeum. The logistics and industrial robots, which will be mass-produced at this robot manufacturing plant for the first time in Korea, will be continuously learning in conjunction with the AI data center."
He reiterated, "Based on such advanced technological capabilities, Saemangeum will be reborn as a 'city of the future' where anyone can conveniently use robots in their daily lives."
In particular, President Lee remarked, "This investment by Hyundai Motor Group will completely transform the economic landscape of the entire Honam region." He explained, "Talented individuals from Korea and abroad will be drawn to Saemangeum, North Jeolla Province, and the Honam region. Local youth will no longer have to leave for the capital area to find jobs, but will be able to realize their dreams right here, where they were born and raised."
President Lee also promised Hyundai Motor Group, "The government will respond to the company's bold decision with even bolder support," adding, "We will pay meticulous attention to ensure that companies and employees relocated to the region do not experience any inconvenience in their daily lives."
He continued, "To allow companies to fully realize their potential and grow further, we will dramatically lower the barriers to regulatory and administrative support. The government will provide firm backing so that this investment becomes the best model case for companies entering regional markets and ultimately returns greater benefits to both businesses and local communities."
He concluded, "I sincerely welcome Hyundai Motor Group's investment in Saemangeum. Chairman Chung Ju-yung would be proud."
