Gapyeong County Refurbishes Mascot Sculptures
Completes Recruitment of Lodging and Restaurant Participants
The countdown has officially begun for Gyeonggi-do's largest sports-for-all festival, expected to attract approximately 25,000 participants in August and September, with Gapyeong County as the host.
On February 27, Gapyeong County announced that it had completed both the refurbishment of the festival mascot sculptures and the additional recruitment of local lodging and restaurant businesses for participation in the "2026 Gyeonggi-do Sports for All Festival," entering a full-scale preparation phase for the event's successful hosting.
On February 26, the county finished refurbishing the festival mascots "Gatpyeongi" and "Songsongi," which are installed at Jaraseom Island and the main stadium. This effort involved a complete update of key information such as the event schedule, aiming to provide visitors with a more accurate and organized image.
The mascot sculptures, depicting figures running with the torch, are made of fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) and measure 3 meters wide by 2.8 meters tall. They are equipped with solar-powered lighting to ensure high visibility even at night. The county plans to maximize economic efficiency and effectiveness by utilizing the existing high-quality sculptures, while also uniting local residents' commitment to the successful hosting of the event.
Additionally, with the completion of the additional recruitment of lodging and restaurant businesses, the county has strengthened public-private cooperation to provide high-quality services to visitors during the festival period. By simultaneously advancing hardware upgrades, such as mascot refurbishment, and software improvements, such as expanding participating businesses, the county aims to enhance the overall readiness of the event.
With the refurbishment of the mascot sculptures complete, the county plans to further boost external publicity and continue to run pre-event programs that allow residents to experience and engage with sports-for-all activities in their daily lives.
A Gapyeong County official stated, "The completion of the mascot refurbishment and the recruitment of additional lodging and restaurant businesses marks the official kickoff for the successful 2026 festival. We will devote our administrative resources to ensure thorough preparations so that all visitors to Gapyeong can enjoy the best sports-for-all festival."
