This upgrade was based on feedback from students and parents received through online suggestion boxes, satisfaction surveys, and civil complaints. The improvements focused on increasing convenience by adjusting departure times, changing stop order, expanding routes to after-school academy districts for return trips, and introducing public Wi-Fi on the buses.
Since the service launched in August 2024, six buses have been operating along six routes. Following a route reorganization at the start of the previous school year, the average daily number of users in 2025 reached 309, representing an approximately 80% increase from 173 the previous year. Morning commutes increased by 52%, and afternoon commutes rose by 150%, clearly demonstrating high engagement from both students and parents.
With these improvements, Route Student 01 will now operate separately, focusing on six stops in the Gosan district rather than covering both the Gosan and Minlak districts together. Additionally, Solmoe Middle School and Yeongseok High School have been added as stops.
The school bus departure times have been moved 5 minutes later, changing from 7:35 a.m. and 7:40 a.m. to 7:40 a.m. and 7:45 a.m., respectively. The stop order for each school has been reorganized to better reflect the different start times: Uijeongbu Gwangdong High School, Uijeongbu High School, Kyungmin School, Uijeongbu Girls' High School, and Korea Mobility High School.
For the return trip, instead of Route Student 01 passing through the Minlak-dong academy district as before, Routes Student 02 and Student 03 will now serve this area. The Geumo-dong academy district will primarily be served by Route Student 02.
Additionally, wireless communication devices have been installed on all school buses so that students can use public Wi-Fi while riding.
In response to increasing school bus usage and ongoing requests to expand routes, the city plans to accelerate service expansion. Notably, the "Top 10 Innovative Bus Service Initiatives for Uijeongbu City" announced in December 2025 includes the expansion of student school bus routes.
Accordingly, in August, a new route will be launched that starts in Howon-dong and runs to high schools located in Howon-dong, Ganeung-dong, and Nokyang-dong. The city also plans to continuously analyze operational data and conduct regular satisfaction surveys to flexibly adjust the routes as needed.
Jang Seungsoo, Head of the Bus Policy Division, stated, "The student school bus is more than just a means of transportation; it is a service that contributes to creating a comfortable commuting environment and improving convenience for students. We will continue to incorporate user feedback to establish the school bus as an even more convenient and trusted service."
