Direct 'One Team' System Under Pohang and Gwangyang Steelworks
Securing Leadership in Future Markets
POSCO has established a "One Team" system for its eight core strategic products in an effort to secure a leading position in the future steel market, while also focusing on strengthening its fundamental competitiveness in steel production.

On February 27, POSCO announced that it had launched four new project teams earlier this month: one for stainless steel (STS) for next-generation growth markets, one for PosMAC (high corrosion-resistant alloy-coated steel) for renewable energy, one for high-manganese (Mn) steel, and one for premium electric arc furnace steel.
Including the teams launched in December of last year-energy steel plate, electrical steel for power applications, GigaSteel (ultra-high-strength, lightweight steel), and HyperNO (non-oriented electrical steel)-POSCO has now completed the formation of its "eight core strategic product technology development project teams," which are now fully operational.
At the end of last year, POSCO selected these eight core strategic products to rebuild its steel competitiveness and secure future growth engines. Since then, the company has established dedicated project teams to oversee the entire process from technology development to production and sales. Each product-specific project team is placed directly under the Pohang and Gwangyang steelworks, enabling immediate application of research results to production processes and emphasizing a field-oriented approach. The strategy is to secure leadership in future markets, focusing on high-value-added steel products.
The roles of the two steelworks have also been differentiated. Pohang Steelworks will focus on improving the performance and development of energy steel used in the oil, gas, power generation, and renewable energy sectors, responding to the growing global demand for electricity. The aim is to concentrate its capabilities as a leading steelworks for energy steel. Meanwhile, Gwangyang Steelworks, which specializes in automotive steel sheets, will strengthen the development of low-carbon, high-value steel aimed at the autonomous driving and future mobility markets, enhancing its competitiveness as a "next-generation mobility specialized steelworks."
At the POSCO Group Tech Forum held in November last year, POSCO Group Chairman Chang Inhwa stated, "We will accelerate technological development by concentrating resources on core strategic products and innovative processes, and by promoting ultra-gap projects with a One Team approach involving research, production, and sales." He further emphasized in this year's New Year's address, "We must complete the portfolio of the eight core strategic products, which are essential to future industries, in order to strengthen our market leadership."
Recently, as export conditions have deteriorated due to tariff increases in major export destinations such as the United States and an 8% decrease in exports to the U.S., the government has been strengthening the institutional foundation for carbon reduction and export structure advancement through the "K-Steel Act." POSCO plans to lead the structural transformation of the domestic steel ecosystem in line with the government's steel industry advancement policy by enhancing its competitiveness centered on the eight core strategic products.
A POSCO representative commented, "Despite challenges such as the proliferation of low-priced imports and global tariff barriers, we will expand our strategic product portfolio and strengthen our leadership in the future industrial market by leveraging One Team synergy that breaks down barriers between departments."
