Yanggu-gun Attends "Border Area Peace and Security Joint Meeting"
Preparation of Joint Comprehensive Measures, Including Enactment of Ordinances on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and Propaganda Leaflets toward North Korea
Yanggu-gun in Gangwon Province (Governor Seo Heungwon) attended the "Border Area Peace and Security Joint Meeting" held at the Inter-Korean Dialogue Office of the Ministry of Unification in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the 26th, and discussed measures to establish a safety net for residents in border areas.
The meeting was presided over by Minister of Unification Chung Dongyoung. It was convened so that the government and local governments in border areas could jointly seek response measures to the recent issues of unmanned aerial vehicle incursions and the scattering of propaganda leaflets toward North Korea, and to build an effective safety management system, including the enactment of related ordinances.
The meeting was attended by key government officials, including the Minister of Unification, the Vice Minister of National Defense, and the Director General for Disaster and Safety Management at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, along with heads and deputy heads of local governments belonging to the Council of Mayors and Governors of Border Areas, including Yanggu-gun Governor Seo Heungwon.
The discussions focused on: ▲ measures to establish a joint government-local government peace and safety network in border areas ▲ preparation of a joint comprehensive plan related to unmanned aerial vehicles and the scattering of propaganda leaflets toward North Korea ▲ sharing of project plans to expand consensus on peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula.
Yanggu-gun Governor Seo Heungwon stated, "We will strengthen the role of local governments so that the anxiety of residents in border areas can be alleviated and they can maintain stable daily lives," adding, "We will actively cooperate to ensure that on-site opinions are fully reflected in government policies so that effective safety measures can be put in place."
