A total of 14 experts from the AI industry, academia, and government-funded institutions attended the meeting.

This committee meeting was organized to discuss the planning direction of large-scale AX projects based on regionally specialized industries, in response to the central government's "Five Poles and Three Special AX Strategy."

The government is promoting AX projects focusing on the four major regions nationwide and is in the process of expanding them to the second-tier regions (Gangwon, South Chungcheong, and Jeju).

In line with this, the province gathered expert opinions to elaborate strategies for the AX transition of its specialized regional industries.

In addition, participants shared key projects such as AX demonstration projects in the medical and manufacturing sectors scheduled for 2026, and programs to strengthen AI capabilities among provincial residents. They also discussed major priority tasks, including strategies to attract data centers to the water-thermal energy convergence cluster and AX demonstration projects in the defense sector.

In particular, they analyzed trends in the data center industry and corporate demand, focusing on the F1 site of the water-thermal energy cluster that is scheduled to be put on the market in the second half of this year, and closely reviewed practical attraction strategies.

Shim Wonseop, Director General of Industry of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, said, "As national-level AI policies expand and the need to build data centers grows, we will take preemptive action to support the AI transition of local industries and the expansion of related infrastructure, so that AI-based future industries can become visible at an early stage, while also working to enhance AI capabilities among provincial residents."
