Gyeonggi Province will recruit 1,000 participants for the "Opportunity Income for Persons with Disabilities" program from March 3 to March 13.
The Opportunity Income for Persons with Disabilities is one of Gyeonggi Province's flagship welfare policies, under which 100,000 won per month is provided if participants certify value-creating activities such as health-related activities of at least one hour, at least twice a week, using a smartwatch. Beyond simple cash support, the program aims to promote health management and social participation, thereby enhancing the independence and quality of life of persons with disabilities.
Eligible applicants are persons classified as having a "severe disability," aged 13 to 64, whose resident registration is in Gyeonggi Province and whose household income is at or below 120% of the national median income. All household members with disabilities in the same household may apply.
Selected participants must wear a smartwatch and certify their activities at least twice a week. If they complete tasks such as registering changes in their health status, taking health-related content courses, and certifying participation in social activities once a month, they will receive 100,000 won per month. Each person can receive up to 1.2 million won per year (for up to 30 months).
Selection will be made after verifying eligibility, based on priority criteria. Priority will be given to: (1) low-income individuals, such as recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security Program; (2) balanced participation demand among cities and counties; and (3) those at risk of social isolation, such as single-person households.
Applications can be submitted online via the Gyeonggi Minwon 24 portal or in person at the eup, myeon, or dong Community Service Center corresponding to the applicant's registered address. Meanwhile, the Opportunity Income for Persons with Disabilities was first introduced in July 2023. A survey of 270 participants conducted last year found that 84.8% responded that their physical health had improved, confirming the program's effectiveness in improving health and activity indicators.
Kang Ilhee, Director of the Welfare for Persons with Disabilities Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "The Opportunity Income for Persons with Disabilities is a policy that helps people manage their own health and participate in society," adding, "We will continue to operate the program in a stable manner so that more provincial residents can experience its benefits."
