Total Project Cost of 18.7 Billion Won Invested
Target Completion in February 2028
Sacheon-si in South Gyeongsang Province has officially embarked on a major initiative to develop "Sacheon Seonsangji," the region's unique geological asset, into a world-class tourist attraction.
On the 26th, Sacheon-si held a groundbreaking ceremony and safety prayer ritual for the "Sacheon Seonsangji Themed Tourist Attraction Development Project" at the project site located under Sacheon Bridge in Jumun-ri, Yonghyeon-myeon.
The event was attended by Sacheon Mayor Park Dongsik, Sacheon City Council Chairman Kim Gyuhun, and other key local figures and citizens, who prayed for the successful implementation of the project and accident-free construction.

This project is a large-scale tourism initiative themed around the fan-shaped "Seonsangji," a geological characteristic of Sacheon. A total project cost of 18.7 billion won (50% from the national government, 15% from the provincial government, and 35% from the city) will be invested, and the project will be carried out from February 2026 to February 2028.
As a core facility, an observatory tower with a height of 65 meters will be built in the Jumun-ri area of Yonghyeon-myeon, allowing visitors to enjoy a panoramic view of the spectacular Seonsangji landscape and the beautiful coastal scenery of Sacheon Bay.
In addition, the city plans to systematically expand tourism infrastructure by creating rest areas and developing specialized tour courses.
In particular, the city plans to go beyond simple viewing facilities and foster the site as an "experiential educational tourism hub" by operating hands-on educational programs that leverage the topographical and geological characteristics of the Seonsangji.
The city will also strengthen differentiated tourism storytelling by developing unique content that utilizes agricultural wells and geological resources.
The city expects the project to be linked with existing tourism resources such as the nearby Rainbow Coastal Road and the Yi Sun-sin Victory Road, enabling it to serve as a central axis for ecological and cultural tourism in Sacheon-si.
Meanwhile, Sacheon-si plans to achieve an accident-free construction site by conducting thorough schedule management and safety inspections throughout the construction period.
A city official said, "Today's groundbreaking ceremony marks a historic starting point in promoting the value of Sacheon Seonsangji to the world," adding, "Until completion in 2028, we will put safety above all else and develop this area into a premier tourist destination in Korea that citizens can be proud of."
