The West Sea Regional Coast Guard announced on the 26th that during the special Lunar New Year holiday preventive inspection period from the 5th to the 18th, over 13 days, it maintained a seamless management system with not a single pollution accident, by inspecting major vessels, marine facilities, and other areas vulnerable to marine pollution.

This represents a 100% decrease compared with the Lunar New Year holiday period last year.

The West Sea Coast Guard analyzed that relatively favorable weather conditions, along with preventive activities at vulnerable points such as long-term moored vessels and vessels mobilized for offshore construction, were the main factors that led to the accident-free outcome.

In particular, it visited the Gwangyang Regional Marine Pollution Response Support Center to inspect the emergency mobilization readiness of pollution response equipment and materials, and, in addition to checking vulnerable spots such as Jindo Seomanghang Port, it also examined materials stored in pollution response containers that had been forward-deployed.

It also requested that the marine pollution prevention manager at the Jindo Suhyup oil storage facility (storage capacity of 400 kiloliters) thoroughly prevent marine pollution accidents during the supply and receipt of oil, and strengthened its emergency response system by concentrating the deployment of pollution response vessels to enhance safety management for the arrival and departure of crude oil carriers.

An official from the West Sea Coast Guard said, "Through intensive, on-site, close-contact inspections during the Lunar New Year holiday period, we achieved zero marine pollution accidents during the holiday."
