Proposing Content-Based Strategies for Regional Economic Growth
On February 26, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province held the February Gangwon Economic Study session at the International Conference Hall of the 60th Anniversary Memorial Hall at Kangwon National University under the theme of "Sports Content and Regional Economic Growth Strategies." The event drew keen interest, with more than 160 participants including businesspeople in the province, representatives from economic organizations, related institutions, and provincial government employees.

At this lecture, former professional baseball player and current broadcaster Jung Keun-woo served as the speaker. He shared his 15 years of experience as a player and his current broadcasting activities from an economic perspective, resonating with the audience.
Lecturer Jung Keun-woo explained, "Baseball is more than a game played by nine players; it is a single system made up of hundreds of roles and choices," noting that the operating principles of sports resemble corporate management and urban structures.
He went on to say, "Sports should be approached as a 'content industry' that continues throughout the year, rather than as one-off events," emphasizing that what matters is not the number of events held, but the production structure of the content that is generated from them.
As strategies tailored to Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, he proposed expanding year-round training camps and the hosting of national tournaments, as well as creating content that combines sports with tourism resources and star marketing. In particular, he analyzed that the city itself should function as a "platform" that produces and distributes sports content.
Director General of Economic Affairs Kim Manho said, "This lecture was a meaningful opportunity to look at sports from a new industrial perspective rather than just as competitions, and to think together about its potential for expansion," adding, "We will work to foster sports as a sustainable content industry and develop a Gangwon-style sports industry model that connects with the regional economy."
