HJ Heavy Industries announced on the 26th that it has signed a contract worth 92.2 billion won with the Philippine Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the "Tagum Flood Control Project."
Through this project, a large-scale infrastructure facility will be built to prevent chronic flood damage in and around Tagum City on Mindanao Island in the southern Philippines. The project will be financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). HJ Heavy Industries received the notice of award in November last year, and the main contract has now been signed after detailed coordination.
Over the next 48 months, HJ Heavy Industries will carry out dredging and widening works along approximately 12.4 km of the river basin area in Tagum City. The construction will include river dredging of about 1.35 million cubic meters and earthworks of 300,000 cubic meters. Three new bridges, one automatic floodgate, and one pedestrian overpass are also scheduled to be built.
HJ Heavy Industries stated, "This is the result of the trust we have built over more than 50 years since becoming the first Korean construction company to enter the Philippine market in 1973," adding, "We have successfully completed more than 80 projects, including the Manila Light Rail Transit, Davao International Airport, and the Subic Shipyard, and as a result we now hold the largest track record among all foreign construction companies operating in the Philippines."
