“Seoraksan Region Future Forum” to Be Held on February 27
Inje-gun in Gangwon Province and Dongguk University will sign a work agreement on February 27 at the Inje Miracle Library to promote collaboration between the local government and academia.
This agreement comprehensively expands on the “Lifelong Learning-Centered Government-Academia Cooperation Work Agreement” signed in October 2024, broadening the scope of cooperation from a focus on lifelong education to include education and utilization of historical and cultural resources in the Seoraksan region, as well as the field of the peace economy.
The agreement specifies a term of two years, with the possibility of extension upon mutual consent.
Under the existing agreement, the two institutions have mainly cooperated on the development and operation of lifelong education programs, the provision of lifelong education materials, and the promotion of government-academia cooperation linkages, and have jointly pursued projects such as building educational and cultural infrastructure in the Naeseorak Baekdam area and operating the Manhae Academy, as well as research and program development in lifelong education.
Building on this, the new agreement includes: continuing win-win cooperation between the local government and academia centered on lifelong education; revitalizing education and research based on the humanities classics and the historical and cultural resources of the Seoraksan region; and cooperating on the designation and operation of the Inje-gun Peace Economy Special Zone.
In particular, based on Dongguk University’s academic research capabilities, the two sides will promote the digitization of humanities classics and joint surveys and research on the historical and cultural resources of the Seoraksan region, and will cooperate in utilizing these as academic and educational resources.
Inje-gun plans to strengthen the educational ecosystem based on its natural and cultural heritage, and in the longer term to build a policy research and advisory system for the designation and operation of the Peace Economy Special Zone.
Meanwhile, alongside the signing ceremony, the “Seoraksan-gwon Nature and Cultural Heritage-Based Lifelong Education Future Forum” will be held as part of the 2025 Inje-gun-Dongguk University cooperation project.
In the first session of the event, Professor Oh Choonghyun of Dongguk University and Professor Lee Jongsu of Sunchon National University will give presentations on the theme “The Future Value of Natural and Cultural Heritage in the Seoraksan Region.”
In the second session, on the theme “Tasks and Prospects for Lifelong Education in the Era of Local Autonomy,” Professor Cho Sangshik of Dongguk University will present lifelong education plans for reskilling and upskilling residents in Inje-gun, followed by a presentation by Professor Emeritus Lee Dongchul of Yong In University on cases of classical Chinese education in the AI era.
Afterward, a comprehensive discussion will be held to explore a sustainable lifelong education model based on the natural and cultural heritage of the Seoraksan region.
An official from Inje-gun said, “This agreement is an important turning point in expanding Seorak’s natural and cultural heritage into assets for education and research,” adding, “We will strengthen cooperation in the humanities and research based on lifelong education, and build a practical cooperation system that ultimately connects to the promotion of the Peace Economy Special Zone.”
Inje-gun plans to continue expanding government-academia cooperation that utilizes the region’s unique assets, thereby steadily reinforcing the foundation of an educational city where residents, young people, and military personnel learn and grow together.
