Seminar with CEO Kim Bongchan, Ecological Landscape Architect and Pioneer of Naturalistic Gardens, Sheds Light on the Essence of Landscape Architecture
Convergence of 36 Years of Accumulated Technical Expertise and Ecological Philosophy Poised to Elevate Landscape Quality to the Next Level
Landscape total-solution company LF D&L Co., Ltd. announced that it held a landscape design seminar under the theme of "Gardens the Land Wants" by inviting CEO Kim Bongchan of The Garden, a leading ecological landscape architect in Korea.
CEO Kim Bongchan is an ecology-based landscape architect and a pioneer in the field of naturalistic gardens. The seminar was held with the participation of industry experts, including LF D&L executives and employees, Yujeehyun, Director at global landscape architecture and urban planning firm SWA Group, and officials from GS Engineering & Construction.
In his lecture, CEO Kim introduced his own landscape philosophy through major ecological landscape projects such as "Amore Seongsu" and "Jeju VEKE Garden," explaining that a garden is not just a visual element, but a practice of interpreting soil, climate, and the flow of history. Moving beyond artificial aesthetics, the discussion focused on how to harmonize the ecological characteristics of plants with the built environment, based on field-oriented perspectives.
During this process, CEO Kim emphasized that technical expertise at the construction stage prior to design is crucial to realizing plant ecology. In particular, he explained that fundamental groundwork such as soil composition and drainage design systems, which enhance the self-sustaining power of plants, determines the sustainability of landscape architecture, and he engaged in in-depth Q&A with the participants.
Through this seminar, LF D&L created an opportunity to integrate CEO Kim's ecological perspective with the technical experience the company has built up over 36 years across landmark complexes and public projects such as Banpo Xi, Seocho Gran Xi, Yongsan Apere Hangang, and the landscaping construction for the Wirye New Town taxi project. Rather than stopping at fragmented design improvements, the company redefined at the company-wide level that the goal of urban landscaping should be "sustainable vitality," forming a shared consensus.
LF D&L CEO Lee Deokwoo said, "I hope this seminar, which brought together LF D&L, CEO Kim Bongchan of The Garden, and SWA Group Director Yujeehyun in one place based on each party's expertise, will serve as an opportunity to expand new perspectives in landscape design," adding, "We will concretize in the field a direction for landscape architecture in which technology, ecology, and design philosophy are organically combined."
Meanwhile, LF D&L is strengthening its expertise across the entire process of design, construction, and maintenance, building on this event following its recent memorandum of understanding (MOU) for landscape design work with "Seoahn Landscape Architecture" and the seminar with SWA Group. Based on such collaboration and research, the company plans to contribute to spreading leading landscape culture on external stages such as the "Seoul International Garden Show 2026."
