Jang Donghyuk Warns, "Shaking the South Korea-U.S. Alliance and Forcing Judicial Reform... Fears of Dictatorship Under the Lee Administration"

Opening remarks at the People Power Party Supreme Council meeting on the 26th

On the 26th, Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, said, "The Lee Jaemyung administration has consistently opposed the United States' push to strengthen its defense capabilities," adding, "It is unsettling to think whether we can entrust our national defense to a government that is overly mindful of North Korea and China."

Jang made these remarks at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, on this day. He said, "The Lee Jaemyung administration's attempts to undermine the South Korea-United States alliance are becoming ever more outrageous," and added, "At the event where the March South Korea-United States combined exercise plan was jointly announced, an absurd situation occurred in which our military and the U.S. military spoke with different voices."

He said, "The U.S. Forces Korea say they will continue field maneuver training, but has our military not effectively stated a position of scaling back the training?" He went on, "There are also moves to re-establish no-fly zones while talking about restoring the September 19 Military Agreement."

Jang continued his criticism of the government's North Korea policy. He said, "President Lee halted broadcasts toward North Korea and blocked leaflets to the North, being preoccupied with appeasing Pyongyang, but it has ultimately been revealed that his North Korea policy was nothing but unrequited love," adding, "He even lowered our national security posture in an attempt to win North Korea's heart, but all that came back was North Korea's sneers and mockery."

He also raised the level of criticism regarding the bid by the Democratic Party of Korea to bring the so-called 'distortion of law crime' bill to the floor. Jang said, "The creation of a new distortion of law crime, the increase in the number of Supreme Court justices, and the introduction of a constitutional complaint against court rulings are bills opposed by everyone except the Lee Jaemyung administration and its hardline supporters," adding, "At the National Conference of Court Presidents, they clearly expressed opposition, and the legal community, academia, and civic groups such as People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy and Lawyers for a Democratic Society have also voiced concerns."

He went on, "The People Power Party is responding with a filibuster, but in reality it is a desperate situation in which it is difficult to block the bill's passage," claiming, "Their intention is to complete a unipolar dictatorship system by destroying the constitutional order in order to shield Lee Jaemyung from the law and to annihilate opposing forces."

He warned, "In the Republic of Korea in 2026, the specter of Nazi dictatorship is being revived," adding, "As we saw in Venezuela, the end of dictatorship is the complete devastation of people's livelihoods."
