Daejeon Metropolitan City is promoting the "2026 Student Loan Interest Support Program" so that university and graduate students can ease the burden of repaying their student loans and focus on their studies.

This program will support the repayment of interest incurred in 2025 on student loans from the Korea Student Aid Foundation. With a city budget of 162.5 million won, a total of about 1,100 people will benefit.

Those eligible for support are: (1) students enrolled at universities located in Daejeon (including graduate schools, and including students on leave of absence and students who have deferred graduation); and (2) students enrolled at universities in other regions (including graduate schools) whose own or whose lineal ascendant's resident registration has been in Daejeon for at least one year as of the announcement date.

However, the following are excluded from support: (1) those who receive support from other institutions or individuals specifically for student loan interest; (2) students who have been expelled; (3) those who have received interest-free loans; and (4) those who have fully repaid their loans from the Korea Student Aid Foundation.

The application period runs from the 27th to March 27, and applications can be submitted online by attaching the required documents on the Daejeon Youth Portal website.

The amount of support is capped at up to 1 million won per person, and the selection results can be checked on the Korea Student Aid Foundation website in May (scheduled). The support funds will not be paid into individual bank accounts but will instead be directly applied to the repayment account for student loans at the Korea Student Aid Foundation.

Min Donghee, Director General of the Education Policy Strategy Bureau, said, "We hope this program will help alleviate the financial burden on university and graduate students and contribute to creating stable conditions for their studies," adding, "We look forward to many students taking interest and applying."
