This project aims to restore the disrupted and damaged ecological corridor (Gaeuncheon~Namsan) within the city center, thereby contributing to the recovery of the deteriorated health of the urban ecosystem, securing habitats for various species, and creating an ecological experience space for local residents and visitors. It was selected as a new project by the Ministry of Environment in August 2023, and following the commencement of the basic and detailed design services in 2024, full-scale construction is scheduled to begin after the completion of the design in December 2026.
About 60 people, including Sangju City officials and local residents, attended the briefing to hear about the main details of the project and future plans and to share a wide range of opinions.
In particular, residents shared various opinions on measures to secure sufficient water flow in Gaeuncheon and on the installation of trails for visitors, in order to restore the ecosystems of Gaeuncheon and Namsan Neighborhood Park.
Mayor Kang Youngseok said, "Through this residents briefing, we will gather a wide range of opinions from experts and local residents and carry out the necessary administrative procedures so that this project can move forward as quickly as possible."
